Why I’m Running

An Economy That Works for Every Iowa Family
Iowa families are in the middle of an affordability crisis, and Mariannette Miller-Meeks is making it worse. Whether it is the price of groceries, gas, healthcare or housing, prices keep going up. And Trump’s tariff and trade policies are making it harder on Iowa farmers to sell their crops and making it impossible for small businesses to plan for the future. And Miller-Meeks’ vote for the Republican budget will only make prices go higher. We need new leadership and a new direction.
I’ll fight for a tariff and trade policy that will open markets for our farmers, not close them, and that will lower prices for Iowa families while helping Iowa businesses thrive. And I’ll end the massive corporate and billionaire tax giveaways and subsidies that are driving up the federal deficit and making it harder for Iowa families to make ends meet.

Access to Affordable Healthcare
My grandfather was a family doctor in Mount Pleasant and my father was also a family doctor in our hometown of Muscatine. By the time my father retired, you had to drive 45 minutes from town to deliver a baby. That’s not right. And now, our congresswoman, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, voted to make it even harder to get healthcare in our district, and more expensive. Thanks to Miller-Meeks, at least four rural hospitals are now at risk of closing and thousands of Iowans will be without healthcare coverage at all, which will raise healthcare costs for everyone.
I’ll fight to reverse the Miller-Meeks’ cuts to Medicaid and protect our rural hospitals by clawing back the tax giveaways to billionaires and corporations that see their profits swell while hospital emergency rooms close. I’ll work so that if you live in Muscatine, Mount Pleasant or anywhere in the district, you can have your child delivered there too, as it should be.

Keeping Faith with our Seniors
When Social Security was passed almost 90 years ago, it represented a promise to seniors that after a lifetime of hard work they would be able to retire with dignity. Under Mariannette Miller-Meeks and the Republican Congress, we are on the verge of breaking that promise. Social Security will run out of money in less than 10 years and Miller-Meeks voted to add over $3 trillion to the federal deficit, making the situation even worse. On top of this, when seniors need help with Social Security, they can’t even get someone on the phone, much less the help that they need.
New leadership can stop this breach of trust. It shouldn’t take an act of Congress to get someone on the phone to answer a simple question. But that is where we are under Miller-Meeks. I’ll fight every day to keep faith with our seniors and preserve Social Security for their generation, and the next and the next. And I’ll make sure the phones get answered too.
